WD Social Action Adopting projects that carry out the traditional mandate of Tikkun olam (תיקון עולם), "repairing the world", Women's Division has undertaken social action projects that make a difference in the lives of families and children.
Women's Division's 2012 Social Action initiative, Mitzvah Magic, grew out of a desire to plant the seeds of tzedakah in members' own young children. The program is designed to help parents instill the value of performing MITZVOT- commandments or good deeds - within their families and throughout their communities. With the mission in mind, WD has partnered with North Shore Children's Hospital on its Ready 2 Read program, collecting and donating 1000 high quality children's books to stock the hospital, where volunteers read to inpatients and children waiting for appointments. Working in conjunction with Birthday Wishes, WD has facilitated birthday parties for homeless children living in local shelters and transitional facilities. WD has solicited food donations to stock both Haven from Hunger and JF&CS's Family Table, New England's largest Kosher food bank.
