Donating Stock or Mutual Funds

Gifts of stock or mutual fund shares are a convenient and beneficial way to support the Annual Campaign of JFNS or to add to your Donor Advised Fund or Endowment Fund. Your gift not only supports the Jewish community on the North Shore and beyond but it can also bring potential tax benefits. Transferring appreciated shares of stock or mutual funds directly to JFNS may entitle you to a charitable income tax deduction for their full current market value (if the stock was owned for more than one year) without paying capital gains tax on the appreciation.

Leaving a Bequest

IF You have the Will….
We have the Way.

Leaving a bequest to the Jewish Community Foundation of the North Shore enables you to create a permanent legacy that can help Jews forever.  Keep reading on how you can preserve our Jewish community….for years to come.
Bequests are the most realistic way for donors to leave a legacy for the future generations of the Jewish community. Over the past years, individuals, some of modest means, have left meaningful legacies to the Jewish Federation/Community Foundation of the North Shore.  Thanks to their bequest, you and I will be able to help support the stability, enrichment and continuity of Jewish life on the North Shore.
By deciding to leave a bequest of a specific amount of cash, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder of your estate, you can join those who have made a statement that our Jewish community is part of your values, what you care about and stand for.  There is no limit on the amount you may set aside from your estate – you may make a gift as large or small as you like.  You may choose to make a gift of cash, securities, or other property – and your estate will receive a tax deduction in the amount of your charitable bequest.  If you have already drafted a will, your attorney can help you arrange a charitable bequest with a simple amendment, or codicil.
Here are some examples of how you might create a charitable bequest in your will:

  • Help the Jewish community address its most pressing current needs by making a general bequest.

I bequest $ _______ (or ______% of my residuary estate) to the Jewish Federation/Foundation of ________, (city), (state).

  • Provide income for the Jewish community each year in perpetuity by making a general bequest to establish an endowment fund.

I bequest $ _______ (or ______% of my residuary estate) to the Jewish Federation/Foundation of ________, (city), (state), to establish an endowment fund to be used for the general purposes of the Federation/Foundation.

  • Provide a gift to a specific agency of area of interest to you.

I bequest $ _______ (or ______% of my residuary estate) to the Jewish Federation/Foundation of ________, (city), (state),to support ________________
(the Jewish Family Service, charitable needs in Israel, Jewish Education, etc…..)

  • Support a specific agency or cause of interest to you every year, in perpetuity, with a designated bequest to establish an endowment fund.

I bequest $ _______ (or ______% of my residuary estate) to the Jewish Federation/Foundation of ________, (city), (state),to establish an endowment fund to support ________________ (the Jewish Family Service, charitable needs in Israel, Jewish Education, etc…..)

Your will makes it possible to join those donors who have already created a lasting partnership with the Jewish Community.  For more information about your specific legacy needs please contact Kimberlee Schumacher. We look forward to hearing from you.
